Dunlop Sport Maxx RT clean sweep in MOTOR Magazine tyre test

Dunlop’s Sport Maxx RT tyre has been awarded best in class in the 2016 MOTOR Magazine Tyre Test, securing the biggest score margin since the test was re-established in 2008.

The annual test involved ten 235/35 R19 high-performance road tyres being put through their paces by V8 Supercar driver, stunt driver and driving instructor Warren Luff at Sydney Dragway. Results were measured on five disciplines:

  • Wet slalom
  • Wet braking
  • Dry braking
  • Motorkhana
  • Lateral G

Dunlop was the clear winner, outperforming its competition in all five disciplines.

“It was a stand-out across the board for its performance in both wet and dry conditions,” commented Luff. “It’s an excellent all-round tyre.” MOTOR Magazine not only awarded Dunlop “best in class,” but also named the Sport Maxx RT the “best bang for your buck tyre.”

With road and weather conditions providing varied challenges for drivers and tyres alike, performance in both dry and wet braking is a key safety indicator. The Dunlop Sport Maxx RT was the clear leader – with a full seven metres or nearly two car lengths – between it and the last-placed competitor (34.75m vs. 41.75m) in dry braking, and a stopping distance almost three metres shorter than last place in the wet braking test.

The Sport Maxx RT tyre also registered the fastest time for the Motorkhana test (1min19.14sec), highlighting the quality of its new and improved tread pattern that allows for more stable outer shoulder blocks to enhance stability and handling when cornering. The test comprises seven tight-radius bends, interspersed with a short-burst straight, a quick-ish S-bend, and a shortish start/finish that blends into a fast, sweeping right-hander.

“The results highlight the Sport Maxx RT’s ability to perform to the highest possible standards when faced with a range of tough conditions, taking sports performance tyres to the next level,” said Cat Parker, general manager, Product, Digital, Marketing & IT for Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres Australia.

“We’re extremely proud of the extensive features Dunlop Sport Maxx RT offers consumers: superb wet and dry grip thanks to our adaptive compound technology, the best stability and handling, phenomenal braking distances through our Short Braking blocks, and low fuel consumption due to its lightweight construction. It’s the ideal tyre for passenger vehicles,” added Parker.

“The Sport Maxx RT combines some of the best innovation in the market, and being rewarded best in class all-round is testament to that,” said Parker.

The Dunlop Sport Maxx RT has been designed for a wide range of high-performance vehicles.
